The competition room open later that evening. This is the blue Ribbon winner by Ann from Dallas

Today Mattel opened their private stash for us to see all the prototyple and untouched dolls. Later in the evening I went to west Hollywest and purchased

Convention Day 3 :

I got up early I went walking in Beverly Hills this morning which is very close to Century City where I was staying. Then I walked a little farther thinking I would walk to West Hollywood remember the heat idex was 104. I tried to ask for direction but got very little help from anyone. LA is not the most friendly city in the world anyway, one bus driver shut the door on me and another drove on pass. Bus maps are imposible to read and nothing was color coded. After being in Chicago where everyone is friendly and mass transit is easy to follow it was big change. I did make to West Hollywood City limits but was exhausted. I asked for direction at he Gracie Allen Hospital and able to get bad to the hotel.

The evening reception was where conventeers came dressed a celebraties. Lots of Lucies there. It also includes celebreties from the Sickle Cell Foundation. I got to meet Debra Wilson among others. The party was fun the food the great everyone was nice.

Barbie Covention Day 2

This ended up being my day to rest. The week before I was in Chicago at the Gay Games and I was still very tired. I did walk to McDonalds in the morning and used all my energy for the day. I did room shop and talk to the various people on my floor. I ran into Lori from Michigan who as always had to tell what a fabulous day she had with her cool friends (barf). Ok I'm really still in high school.
Lots of Italian on the floor doing impressive one of a kind Barbie for the charity auction. I sleep the greater part of the day. Picture is of the Italians

Barbie Convention

First I want to clear the air, I am not ashamed to be a barbie collector. The reason I hate to talk about is people want a rational reason for liking the irrational. They don't expect of anything else but they do about barbie. That been said I go on with the convention.

I arrived the Monday before the convention. I manage to get around the Dallas airport, grab a burrito and pee in 19 minutes before first call for my connecting flight. Then the flight to LA was delayed because of ants (not making that up).

The hotel was beautiful. Its called the white house of the west because of the important conference that have been held there. Tony Blair was checking in as I was checking out. Every President in the 4o years picture was plaster on the wall as well as Apollo 13 astronauts

Los Angles weather was hot unbearable outside of the hotel. Theres was a mall across the street, one those California malls semi enclosed. The food court was outside to hot really to enjoy it much.

The view from my room was fantastic. My room was located where all the dealer were so there were people always in the hallway. Its was great having people to talk to all the time.

Today I turn 50

I turned fifty this morning. I was hoping to have this getting older thing settled in my mind, I would write something comical in blog like the Top Ten reasons turning 50 and being gay is fabulous. I just don't have it in me to feel that way.
Other guys and girls are able to drive right in this age thing without blinking an eye. They looked forward to being refered as a Silver Daddy and carring their AARP membership to Palm Springs for vacation. I on the other still want to climb those mountains and reach for the stars.

So the best I can do is promise myself I will live life the way I want too. I promise I will spend more time with people. Go to more events. talk more. laugh more wear a purple dress and a red hat if I want too. Care less about what people think and more what I think.

Final Thoughts about the Gay Games

I've been reading lots of comments about the Gay Games in various blogs and web sites. Comparing the Gay Games to the Olympic and if your not good enough to participate in Olympic why waste your time.
It all sinks of homophobia and self hate.

They goals of the Gay Games were very different then the Olympic the Gay Games the goals are Participation, inclusion and Personal best. Gay Games met these goals. I watched people from all over the world come together and Respect each other.

There is one blog where a man has picture of a guy covered with cum and then the next blog condemning gay pride as a embarrassment. Another blog from a guy who spends all day at gym calling the gay games a waste of time and poo-pooing their goals.

I wonder if these People remember where we came from? When I came out in the 70's there was more respect and were more accepting of indivilals life styles. Remember it was the drag queens that fought back at Stonewall.

Now it appears we slit into diferent sub groups each condemning the other and it will death of our freedom if it continues. Straights don't give a dam if your butch acting or a fem, a queer is a queer. I prefer to be proud of everyone.

The person I will remember the most is the guy from Iowa who arrived by himself with a set of Pink suitcases, dressed in a very effemiated way. He left the games with friends, silver metal and more confidence. Partipation, inclusion and Personal Best.
