Ringwald Theater-Goldern Girls

July 16-August 8, 2011

From the gang that brought you THE FACTS OF LIFE: THE LOST EPISODE comes a fabulous summer with your favorite Ringwald guys becoming your favorite Golden Girls!

An irreverent, yet loving, tribute to The Golden Girls. It's just another day in Miami for those cheesecake-loving gals; that is until former N*SYNCer Lance Bass moves in next door and his rowdy all-night gay sex parties end up disrupting the girls' beauty sleep. When Dorthea demands that Bass cut it out, he challenges her to a bet: if the girls win the top prize in the Shady Oaks retirement home talent contest, he'll stop the parties, but if he wins the girls become his personal cleanup crew. What follows is a singing, dancing farce that could only derive from such an improbable situation.

Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003)
Renowned actress, role model, fashion icon, outspoken, independent and feisty, Katharine Hepburn is listed by the American Film Institute as Hollywood's greatest screen legend. During a career that spanned six decades, Hepburn was nominated 12 times for Academy Awards as Best Actress and won four. Her sense of style influenced countless women, fashion designers, and the informal, elegant approach to American style seen on today's runways.

Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen

In 2008, the Kent State University Museum was honored to receive Katharine Hepburn's personal collection of film, stage and television costumes, as well as clothes worn by her for publicity purposes.

In celebration of the Museum's 25th anniversary year, Hepburn's performance clothes will be displayed in a very special exhibit including: stage costumes from The Philadelphia Story, Without Love and Coco; screen costumes from such classic films as Stage Door, Adam's Rib and Long Day's Journey Into Night; and many of her television movies, such as Love Among the Ruins. In addition, Hepburn's "signature look," an ensemble of tailored beige trousers and linen jackets, will be spotlighted, as will vintage posters, playbills, photos and other Hepburn-related artifacts.

The exhibit will also be supported by special events and programming on Hepburn's career, influence and life. These will take place at the Museum, across the Kent Campus and throughout Northeast Ohio.

This exhibition has received support from the following generous sponsors

The Kids Left. The Dog Died. Now What?
April 1st through April 30th

With book, music and lyrics by Carol Caplan-Lonner, here is a musical comedy that salutes those valiantly struggling with divorce on their hands, gravity on their bodies, grandchildren on their self-images and the dating scene on their egos. The risks and uncertainties that accompany being middle age come alive through song and scene. Aging gracefully is the final frontier

Mercury Fur-Ringwald Theater http://www.whowantscaketheatre.com/modules/theatre/
In a lawless ravaged city, Elliot and his brother Darren (played by real brothers Jon and Nico Ager) have been planning a party. The boys and their team survive by realizing their clients’ darkest fantasies. But as the light fades and the event spirals out of control, it becomes clear the success of this particular party will guarantee not just their safety but their salvation. Mercury Fur is funny, bleak, unsettling…and utterly unforgettable.

Mercury Fur, Philip Ridley’s fifth play, premiered in 2005 at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory and the play was deemed so shocking that audience members walked out each night. The controversy continued as Ridley’s publishers for decades, Faber and Faber, refused to publish the text. It set critics at odds with one another with some calling it “Degraded” while others called it “A play you need to see.” Since its explosive premiere, Mercury Fur has been performed throughout the world. As we enter a new decade, with all its unease and moral dilemmas, this brutal vision of love and violence is more relevant than ever.

Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy 2011

by Alana McNair & Kate Wilkinson
Feb 18, 2011 - Mar 14, 2011

Fri, Sat, Mon at 8pm
Sun @ 3pm
The show that started it all! Back in May, 2007, this was the play that opened our doors. It only had a brief two week run, though, and now it’s back for a full engagement! The plot of FATAL ATTRACTION: A GREEK TRAGEDY loosely follows the Academy Award nominated film. When a big-time corporate lawyer has a one-night stand with a no-nonsense business woman while his wife is away, all hell breaks loose. This parody of the '80s classic tells its own story with a kinetic beat, a boiled bunny dance sequence, and numerous kung fu action scenes. FATAL ATTRACTION: A GREEK TRAGEDY is the play that won’t be ignored!

Impressionist Landscapes: Monet to Sargent
February 4 to May 22, 2011

This exquisite exhibition of over 70 luminous paintings includes many of the finest examples of mid-nineteenth through early twentieth century French and American landscapes from the Brooklyn Museum and Kentucky collections. French Impressionists painted highly elaborate “impressions”, the seemingly spontaneous, rapidly executed landscapes and cityscapes that prompted the name of their movement. This exhibition offers an in depth look at landscape painting as practiced by such leading French artists as Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet and their acclaimed American peers including Frederick Childe Hassam and John Singer Sargent.

Impressionist Landscapes: Monet to Sargent has been organized by the Brooklyn Museum.

Support in Louisville has been provided by PNC Wealth Management.

Tickets are now available! Admission is $5 for members, $10 for non-members. For tour group information e-mail groupsales@speedmuseum.org

Last Comedian Poppy Champlin March 5.2010

There's just something about Poppy. She walks on stage looking urban cool and she begins rolling out the jokes, starting slow and sure and moving on to staccato and soon she is hitting on all cylinders, spitting out jokes, quips, songs, impressions, interactions, bird calls and with deep resources to draw from, all of Poppys' shows can be described as spin art - "No two alike." Poppy is crackerjack at the craft of Improv. Throw anything at her and watch as she magically turns it into comedic fodder. Having graduated from the University of R.I with a degree in Theatre she then went on to the Famed Chicago Second City Improv school. Champlin is one of the quickest witted comedians working either coast today. She has a wild and roaming spontaneity, which makes each show actually; feel like one of a kind. She is a powerful performer who can glide between practiced patter and off the cuff insightful improvisation. Poppy's experience with classic standup and improv, gives her a double-barreled flexibility that works particularly well with her subjects of choice. Besides Poppy's deep comedic chops, she actually has a seriously good voice that she puts to use during her performance making sure to end every show on a good note

My Fat Ass-3 weeks in

I'm finishing my 3rd week on the Very Low calorie Diet. After 3 weeks I have lost 24.5 pounds. That is a little more then a pound a day. Let me repeat that is little more then a pound day. The weight is falling off me so quickly, I'm amazed. I meet with the doctor weekly and get lab work drawn every two weeks. I am assured the diet is safe under supervision.

I've had 4 group meeting now, two with the behaviorist, one with the dietitian and exercise specialist. Tonight's meeting was exercise. We learned 10 simple body exercise that gives a total body workout. For the first time in my life I felt comfortable doing exercises in a group-everybody was out of shape like me. The exercises had great name like the Superman, Donkey Kicks, Zig Zag Hop and my personal favorite the Walking Lunges. We did 1 minute of the 10 exercises twice. I am tired.

I need to start doing facial exercises before I have a turkey waddle that hangs down to my nipple line. I'll to be tighting my face by holding my A,E,I,O and U. It's not a pretty site and for some reason I remenber to do at stop lights while driving. Maybe to scare the driver next to me.

Indiana maybe get Gay Marriage Ban

A GOP-ruled House committee voted 8-4 along party lines Monday to advance the proposal, which now moves to the full House for consideration.

The amendment states that only marriage between one man and one woman is valid in Indiana, and prohibits civil unions by stating that a legal status "substantially similar" to marriage for unmarried people is not valid.

Constitutional amendments must go through two separate Legislatures before being put to a public vote, and an amendment banning gay marriage passed the General Assembly in 2005 when Republicans controlled the House and Senate. But in 2006, Democrats won control of the House and the proposal never cleared that chamber again, although some Democrats support the amendment.

This year — with Republicans back in control of the House and Senate — the amendment is back. And the arguments the House committee heard Monday were largely the same as in previous years

I lost 14 pounds on the first week.

I lost 14 pounds on the first week on the very low caloric diet But it wasn't easy. I had periods of fatigue and diarrhea. What concerned me most was awful feeling in the morning until I ate. Light head, weak and sort of semi confused. The Doctor expressed some concern and now has increased the caloric total to somewhere around 950. I have notice a reduction in the wosie feeling when I awake. I going to start keeping some of high protein drink in the bathroom and take a couple of sips when I go to pee.

My great weight loss is the biggest they've had a the weight loss center. The doctor was quick to remind me it was mostly water weight. But I'll take 14 pounds gladly. My fat ass is just a little smaller.

Tron Evil Effeminate Villian

The Tron sequel was an improvement on the first movie. God Knows, I love Jeff Bridges. The story was complex but easy to follow. Flynn's son falls in the video game like Alice with the rabbit hole. There he finds his Dad and Dads younger self video self called Clue. Well Surprise-Surprise, Clue it turns out isn't Pixar cute and has a plan for outer world domination. Sam Flynn, son of the Tron inventor, has to travel the grid with a hot babe to get to the portal to home. The Wonderful Wizard of Tron who get him home is Zuse. So someone sends our boy Son to Castor a disco tech who wants to dance and club all the time. Castor is all in white. with a That Girl flip, and small Fedora and light cane which he twirls like a baton. Castor its turn out is the superevil, supersmart and all powerful Zuse. Who Knew? All really powerful supervilians can be found drinking chi-chi drinks and shaking their behinds.

The bad thing about Castor/Zuse is it's nothing knew. It's homophobia at its purist. Hollywood has been doing for years. A disco-queen can't be just that they have tobe something more-something sinister. All big 'Mo keep secret and can't be trusted and agenda. Don't believe me ask any tea bagger, focus on the family or a large part of the community over 40. Movie like this reinforce that stereotype.

Michael Sheen the actor who played Castor/Zuse calls his chartacter pattern after Ziggy Stardusk and host from Cabaret. Ziggy Stardusk was the sexly ambiguous character by David Bowie. Cabaret takes place in a gay bar called the Kit kat club. I only found one source that took notice of this the Daily Beast. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-12-23/tron-legacy-and-gay-villains-through-hollywood-history/

My Fat Ass-first meeting

I arrived at 5pm at the hospital weight loss center. I check in at the front desk and got my first week of food. The total for the food and cost of the meeting was $160. Thirty dollars of it was meeting the rest for food. The food included 7 entrees at $4.00 each. 2 6 pack of premade drink at $12 each and three 7 pack protein bars. The rest of the food was oat mill, soy snacks and omelet mix. It was 30 dollar for the meeting.

The meeting started at 6pm. There were 5 men and 7 women. The group leader was the behaviorist. The topic was support system. First we introduced ourselves with our biggest challenge of the week. Mine of course was simple just getting started on the program and everyone presented reasonable goal. Then we discuss support system.

When I asked the Art Institute about the deaccessions, spokeswoman Erin Hogan replied that the museum did not put out releases about deaccessions and added:

The works at Christie's have been considered for deaccession for some time based on ongoing collection review. We felt that we have more illustrative examples of the works of these artists from these same periods. For example, we had two works by Braque from 1938 and several works from Matisse's early Nice period (the period of The Green Sash). Braque, Picasso, and Matisse are already well represented in the collection.

My Fat Ass -Diettian visit

Before I Could see the dietitian, I had to place my initials by the programs rule. The rules consisted of 2 pages of things such thing as keeping a journals every day and wear gym clothes on exercise day. They want to know you taking this program seriously. Then I was had to pay $200- this visit was not covered by my insurance. The 200 gets me 3 more visits with either the dietitian, the behaviorist or the exercise instructor.

The dietitian outlined how the program worked. I get 800 to 900 calorie a day. You buy their food ,called product, and you keep a total in a journal. In your journal you also keep track of exercise and water taken in. I will be getting bi-weekly blood work- a Complete blood count and be seen by the doctor. After 10 weeks of I will transition back to regular food and begin a 1200-1400 calorie diet.
The dietitian help me pick out my product. I will eat only one entree per day. I may eat up to 2 high protein bars. The rests of the food are my choice. I with eat "produce" five times a day-preferably before I get hungry. All sounds simple enough- I start the following Monday

A Contemporary American's Guide To A Successful Marriage © 1959

January 28th through February 19th

In time for Valentine's Day, this wildly funny comedy is set against the backdrop of the late 1950s and told in the unbelievably upbeat style of the social guidance films of that era. This play, which focuses on two Iowa couples who get married 'by the book', reminds us that marriage today is no more "for better or worse" than it ever was! In retrospect, the 1950s were a period when much of what seemed right turned out to be wrong, and much of what was considered bad turned out to be wonderful...and funny!
