The Wharton Center in East Lansing has announced the release of its 2010-2011 season lineup of broadway shows.


The schedule includes Disney's "Mary Poppins," the 2006 Tony Award-winning best musical "Jersey Boys," Tony-nominated "9 to 5: The Musical" and the family-friendly show, "Shrek The Musical," in addition to Wharton's returning shows, "Chicago" and "STOMP."


The Performing Arts Series includes stars such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with violinist Sarah Change and conductor Leonard Slatkin, the return of Avlin Ailey American Dance Theater, River North Chicago Dance Company performing to honor American jazz composer and trumpeter Miles Davis, and a performance by jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.


Other highlights include Butch Thomson's New Orleans Jazz Originals and Dee Dee Bridgewater.


"We are committed to bringing the best of Broadway and the performing arts to Wharton Center," Executive Director Mike Brand, said.


"We are consistently in touch with top Broadway producer and we are excited to bring mega-musicals such as 'Jersey Boys' and 'Mary Poppins' to mid-Michigan. We are also lowering the entry point for most of the performing arts attractions making it easier for families to see the high quality attractions this coming season."


The Wharton season will also appeal to Shakespeare lovers and offer an extended "Act One Family Series" to introduce children to the performing arts.
