Prop 8

All the gay people I know are upset about Prop 8. passing. Much more upset then when their own rights were striped away a few years ago. I'm trying to understand this- but I'm not getting it. Is it that we look to California to be our leaded?. Maybe we think its the land of milk and honey? The people are just so cool and laid back-they are OK with us gay folks.

Whatever the reason it didn't happen-like it didn't happen in 27 other states. Now its 30 states that Amendment their Constitution. In Michigan and Ohio you can't ever have partnership benefits its written right in. Not only do they the not want to Marry they don't want us to be able to take care of our partners. Pretty damn cruel folks.

In the mean time, David and I are not getting any younger. Friends straight and gay are starting to drop. Other are getting serious illness. I'm concerned- I imagined all the pressure of being without him. We must have everything perfectly legal -or one of us lose what we have built together.

Back in the '70's . The religious right compliant we didn't have binding long term relationship Jerry Falwell and Anita Bryant made a name for themselves by claiming to protect children from the."Homosexual lifestyle". The Homosexual lifestyle was nothing but group of self involved hedonist. Unwilling and unable to make to lasting committed to each other.

In the '80's with did a admirable job taking care of each one another. We did it without government support. We proved to ourselves and world that we our a decent group of people and value to society.

In 2003 the United States Supreme Court ruled that you can't have special laws for Gay People . Before the ink was dry the battle for equal right in marriage. Surprisingly enough it started by Right wing Christian group. The fear that we may become a Sodom and Gomorrah like Canada and the Netherlands. if committed relationship were to take place.

Either you believe that society is strengthen by human ties or you don't. It's that simple. Its not about an agenda or special rights.
