Theater Outing-Ferndale

A DEADLY GAME AT THE RINGWALD
Who Wants Cake? brings in the new year with Ira Levin's Deathtrap

What happens when a has-been playwright's protégé comes up with a new play that's good enough to kill for? Find out when Who Wants Cake? presents Ira Levin's classic comedic thriller Deathtrap. Opening Friday, January 9th and playing for an exclusive four-week engagement ending on Monday, February 2nd, Deathtrap will kick off the new year at Ferndale's popular Ringwald Theatre.

Sidney Bruhl (Joe Bailey), a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a dry spell that has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break occurs when he receives a script from a student (Jamie Richards) - a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Deathtrap is a devilishly funny game of cat and mouse, where everyone wants to be a success and no one is willing to take No for an answer. They try everything from psychics to Houdini's handcuffs in order to come out on top, with the perfect play in their greedy, bloodstained hands. Murder has never been so much fun!

Ira Levin wrote his first novel, A Kiss Before Dying, when he was 22 years old. Levin's crowning achievement as a playwright, however, is the comedy thriller Deathtrap, which is still the longest-running mystery ever to play on Broadway. The play was awarded an "Edgar" by the Mystery Writers of America. Levin is also well known for his novels: Rosemary's Baby, The Stepford Wives, and The Boys From Brazil. All of these novels, as well as Deathtrap, were turned into successful movies. In 1982, Deathtrap was made into a film starring Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve.

Deathtrap features a talented cast including: Joe Bailey; Melissa Beckwith; Jean Garringer; Tom James; and Jamie Richards. The performance is directed by Jamie Warrow.

Tickets for Deathtrap are $20.00 on Friday and Saturday nights at 8PM, $15.00 for Sunday matinees at 3PM and Monday 8PM performances are HALF OFF normal ticket price at $10.00 a ticket. The first Sunday performance on January 11th at 3PM will be Pay-What-You-Can.

Reservations may be made by phone at 248-545-5545 or online at www.WhoWantsCakeTheatre.com.

The Ringwald Theatre is located at 22742 Woodward Avenue in the Times Square of Ferndale, on the east side of Woodward just south of Nine Mile.

The box office opens 45 minutes before performances.
